Welcome to 2012!
2011 was a great year for the juniors at Hockey Burleigh and we look forward to improving even further this year. Below you will find information about starting dates, sign on and fees.
Important Dates
Official sign on is Sat 11th Feb (see below). Competition starts Fri/Sat 23rd/24th March. Training starts Wed 22 February.
Sign On
This year we would encourage everyone to sign up online. You can sign up online right NOW! The sooner we have everyone signed up, the sooner we can organise teams. If you go to Registration page , you will find the relevant links and instructions. If you are already a member from last year, it’s simply a case of checking your details are correct.
If someone is new to the club or you have any questions or you’d just like to see us to chat about the season, you are more than welcome to come and see us at our official sign up day which will be at two places this year. On Sat 11 Feb we will be at GCHA between 10am and 12pm and then at Burleigh Beach between 2-4pm. (Look for the Hockey Burleigh marquee, just north of the car park across the road from the Burleigh Heads Hotel.)
Payment can be made at the sign up day. You can pay by cash, cheque or credit card. Alternatively, you can also pay at any time by making a direct deposit to our bank account:
BENDIGO BANK B.S.B 633 000 ACCOUNT NUMBER: 118 791 490 ACCOUNT NAME: HOCKEY BURLEIGH REFERENCE: YOUR NAME
Fees
Registration fees remain unchanged from last year. For 12-18yrs, registration will be $195, for U11 it will be $155. This year match fees will need to be prepaid. This saves work for the managers and the handling of money at games each week. Last year we had a flat rate for all teams but due to the competition draw this unfortunately didn’t represent good value for money for some teams. In recognition of this, we will adjust the match fee calculation for this year. We will charge a different amount for each team based on the number of games scheduled for the competition draw. This will be number of games x $5/game less a $10 discount. So if your team is scheduled to play 14 games, you will be charged 14 * $5 – $10 = $60. As soon as we have the competition draw for the season, we will advise every one of their match fees. If the upfront payment causes a financial problem for some of our members, we are happy to discuss the matter with you. We want to minimise the work for our volunteers but we also want to ensure everyone can play hockey!
For Hook In2 Hockey/ U9, registration is $60 with no further payments required.
Uniforms
The uniform will be the same as last year – navy shorts and the Burleigh shirt. If you need new items, then please come and see us at sign on day at Burleigh.
This year the sock design is being updated. Everyone will receive a free pair of brand new Burleigh socks before the first game.
Training
Training for U11 to U18 is at GCHA on Wednesday from 5-6pm starting 22 February. U9 can train either at GCHA from 5-6pm or Mallawa from 4-5pm.
Umpiring
Last year we had great success with the junior umpire mentoring program. We had nine new juniors participate last year and received favourable comments from players, parents and officials. GCHA provided a great group of mentors lead by Burleigh’s own Aleeta, Jeanette and Brian. We would love to see this valuable program grow even further this year.
This year Hockey Burleigh will provide a shirt and whistle to those juniors who participate. Each junior umpire will need to complete a rules familiarisation paper. Once that is done, GCHA will pay them $5 per game. As an added bonus, Hockey Burleigh will also pay them an extra $5. As they improve they can obtain further qualifications which will provide further payment.
If your child would like to take part, let us know.
Representative Payments
Last year we introduced payments for representative players. While we can’t cover the full cost of participation, we would like to make a payment in recognition of their achievement. For each junior who makes a local team, e.g. Gold Coast, there will be a $20 payment. For a state team it will be $50 and for the Australian team, $200. This was warmly received by everyone at the junior presentation last year.
Parents should also be aware that there are additional government grants available to help with travel costs. Also, Hockey Burleigh will also be signing up as part of the Australian Government Sporting Foundation. This will allow people to claim a tax deduction for payments made towards a member’s sporting expenses. For example, if we have a player travelling interstate for a carnival, people can make a contribution towards those travel expenses and claim a tax deduction. Contact the club for further details.
Carpooling
We appreciate that it is a trek up to Labrador to play hockey and the effort everyone makes to get there is commendable. This year we’d like to try to make it easier for people to get there, if possible, by introducing carpooling. While we are not in a position to organise the specifics, we would like to offer the following.
- If you have room to take someone in your car, let us know your name, suburb, number of spaces available, contact (either email or phone) and whether you can do training and/or games.
- If you would like to carpool with someone, let us know your name, suburb, number of spaces required , contact (either email or phone) and whether you require training and/or games.
- We will compile a list of those names and distribute back to everyone who contacts us. It will then be up to you to make contact with each other to organise specific details.
We hope that this service provides the ability for some people to ease the travel requirements for the season.
We look forward to seeing everyone back for a new hockey season.
