HISTORY

Originally there were two Burleigh Hockey clubs, Burleigh Koalas (both mens & womens teams) which was established in 1967, and Burleigh Bobcats (womens only) which was formed in 1968.  Both clubs operated from the Palm Beach Sports club at Mallawa Drive Palm Beach, but in separate facilities.

In 2000 the two clubs merged to form Hockey Burleigh Club Incorporated with the obvious advantage of increased membership under the one banner & shared costs. This exercise proved fruitful initially with 6 senior teams & a growing junior base. Since 2000 the club has experienced a decline in membership due to a variety of reasons, with the main problem being the centralisation of hockey being relocated to the northern end of the coast at Labrador where the synthetic surface is located.

2006 was the beginning of a resurgence for Hockey Burleigh with a number of initiatives introduced by way of a 5 year development plan being implemented with the assistance of Government funding to recruit the services of CPR Group.  The blueprint of our future is now in place to ensure a steady progress where we can once again enjoy a strong junior base with a very competitive senior club.  Hockey Burleigh can boast at least one team in every division men & women within the Gold Coast competition. Our association with Bond University will provide many exciting opportunities in the future with an announcement to be released in mid 2007 that will demonstrate our commitment to providing opportunuties & facilities for our club members.

Hockey Burleigh Club Incorporated prides itself on being an active member and supporter of the development of the Gold Coast Hockey Association and the local hockey competition. Hockey Burleigh is a community driven club with all duties being performed by dedicated volunteers. The club welcomes all new members regardless of age or ability who want to be competitive, have some fun & stay active.
